Woman Charged After Child Dies

NRP charging her with not only drug offences, but also failing to provide necessities of life

A 40-year old Niagara Falls woman has been charged after the death of a child in November of last year.

Police were called to a home in Niagara Falls, to find a 2-year without vital signs.

An autopsy confirmed the child died of fentanyl and bromazolam toxicity.

Police arrested the woman yesterday, charging her with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance to wit Fentanyl, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance to wit Cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Failing to Provide the Necessaries of Life contrary to section 215(2)(a)(ii) of the Criminal Code
  • Criminal Negligence Causing Death contrary to section 220(b) of the Criminal Code

She's being held in custody pending a bail hearing today.

Police add her name will not be given to protect the identity of the child, and next of kin.
