He told his wife they "had to talk", since he wasn't sure if he'd actually won, she was worried
A great news story for a Welland man ending a hard, but rewarding day at work.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation says Joe Chuckry has won $1-million, a top prize after playing Instant Millionaire Multiplier.
The healthcare worker has been playing the lottery for years, and decided if he didn't play, he wouldn't win.
After scanning the ticket, he actually doubted, and told his wife they needed to talk.
She thought something was wrong, as he was shaking, but then she confirmed with excitement he hadn't won $1,000, but a million.
They played the Barenaked Ladies song "If I had $1-million", and then put together a compilation of songs about winning.
The OLG says he plans to pay off the mortgage, invest for retirement, and take his wife to Hawaii.
The ticket was bought at Kay's Korner Variety on Thorold Road in Welland.
