St. Catharines Nightclub Loses Liquor Licence

Alcohol and Gaming Commission says lack of transparency jeopardizes public safety

A night club in St. Catharines that was the scene of a shooting is no longer allowed to sell alcohol, effective last Friday.

The Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario says it has issued a Notice of Proposal to revoke the licence for Motif Inc, also known as Club 88.

The Commission recalls a shooting in April, in which a 16-year old boy was hurt, and while the NRP did their investigation, so did the commission.

It found inconsistent and contradictory information regarding the ownership and shareholders, despite repeated attempts to confirm identities of certain people.

The commission says lack of transparence jeopardizes public safety, and revoking the licence is needed to protect public interest.
