The mayor says it'll be in September, as they deal with Douglas Memorial closure
There's more support behind Fort Erie council in pressuring the province and Niagara Health to keep Douglas Memorial care centre open, after the new South Niagara hospital opens, and keep looking for other solutions.
That came from a vote a Port Colborne council last month.
Mayor Bill Steele also says he'll also have an announcement in September of work Port Colborne is doing with local health care professionals. "Looking for ways to get more patients rostered [registered with doctor], we feel that's hugely important within the city. We feel that we've got about 10,000 people that aren't rostered. That is a tentative number because we don't know who is rostered outside the community."
He wouldn't elaborate on what Port Colborne is doing that's different than Fort Erie.
"So, we think the plan that the physicians have come forward with, will make primary care far greater moving into the future than it is today. So, like I say, we are taking a whole different tact than Fort Erie, which is fine."
The mayor says he's been talking to Mayor Wayne Redekop and Health Minister Sylvia Jones.
