City of St. Catharines says plans are underway, donations accepted to help pay for events
A huge party is planned for 2026 in Port Dalhousie.
City of St. Catharines is planning a year long party celebrating 200 years, with a possible winter party in February, and something in August.
In spite of the area's history, Chair Marty Mako explains to city council why 1826 is marked at Port Dalhousie's birthday. "That's when the 1st canal and village development began. You can see a screen shot of the 1st building lots and land deeds. That's where we're marking the start of the Port Dalhousie that we know today. There are some other landmark events on the timeline with the official grand opening of the Welland Canal."
There's also talk of a time capsule, to be opened in 50 or 100 years.
