Sergeant Kerry Schmidt asking everyone to be mindful of making a wrong decision this holiday weekend
Some sobering, staggering statistics from provincial police as they try to keep highways and waterways safe this holiday weekend.
Sergeant Kerry Schmidt tells us they'll be watching for what he says is the leading cause of death, inattentive or distracted driving.
He adds this has been a deadly year already, with 110 deaths on Ontario roads. "We've had over double the number of pedestrians killed this year compared to last year... 13 pedestrians have been killed. We've had 2 cyclists die, 4 motorcyclists died, last year we had 23 marine fatalities."
They'll also watch for impaired, aggressive and not wearing a seatbelt.
"If you're going camping, out to the water, to the lake, make sure you're wearing your life jacket. If you're in a vehicle, or on an ATV; or a motorcycle, wear your seatbelt, or a helmet. Make sure you understand the consequences of making a bad decision."
He says to call 911, if you see suspected impaired, distracted, or dangerous activity on any type of equipment.
