Local resident looking to honour the late Jake Hiebert
The request to rename a downtown Niagara Falls city street in honour of the man who tantalized the taste buds of thousands of locals will go before city council this afternoon. Local resident Rich Merlino is behind the request to rename a portion of St. Clair Avenue between Queen and Park Streets, Jake Hiebert Way. That stretch of road was home to Jake's Chip Wagon for decades. In a letter to council Merlino says he posted the idea on his Facebook Page April 13th after he learned Jake had passed away and in a short time "it was liked by 406 people, commented on by 112, and shared 35 times." Merlino notes "every single like, comment, and share was extremely positive and many supporting the idea." City staff are recommending the request be referred back to them for study.
