Provincial government investing in St. Catharines Extendicare, for 256 total beds when open
Construction has started on the redevelopment of a long-term care home in St. Catharines.
Assistant to the provincial Minister of Long-term Care Tyler Allsopp was in town today, marking the new 256 bed Extendicare St. Catharines will take new residents in early 2027.
There will be 104 new and 152 redone beds across four floors, with two Resident Home Areas on each floor.
Those rooms will provide space for up to 32 residents each, with dining and recreation areas, lounges and bedrooms.
Some specific rooms offer dementia care, and for those with medical needs that don't require hospital services.
The government says the new home will also care for people who can't find help in other community settings, as well as restorative and palliative care, and private spaces for end of life care.
It's part of the Ontario government's plan to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds.
There will also be a dedicated family dining areas, a chapel, and beauty salon.
